Welcome to the Nature Guide for the Outdoor Classroom at Friess Lake School. In this guide you will find information about the prairie plants, woodland plants, and trees that are growing in various parts of our Outdoor Classroom.

Each plant in this guide is identified by a number. These numbers correspond to the numbers on markers placed near plants in the prairie and wooded areas to the east of our school building. If you find a numbered plant as you walk through our Outdoor Classroom and you want to learn more about the plant, just remember the number. Later you can use this Nature Guide to identify the plant by its number, look at pictures of the plant, and find out other information about it.

This Nature Guide was created by the students at Friess Lake School. Each grade was assigned to study and research plants in both the prairie and woodland areas. All the information was then compiled to create this guide. The fifth grade class worked together to create the botanist character for the “Ask the Botanist” section of each entry.
