H1N1
Update
Although the clinic will
be held as planned, those eligible to receive the
vaccine will be more limited than the last
clinic. The Washington County Health
Department received a shipment of vaccine for its
Saturday, November 7th H1N1 clinic for targeted
groups. The clinic time has changed to 10am
until 2pm at the Fair Park Pavilion on Hwy.
P.
Vaccine production has
been limited, creating shortages in Wisconsin and
nationwide. Because of the nationwide
shortage the CDC has recommended the previous
target groups be further limited to the following
until suppplies of vaccine increase:
*Children age 6 months
through 4 years
*Persons who live with
infants age 6 months or younger
*Children and adolescents
age 5-18 years who have medical conditions that
put them at higher risk for influenza-related
complications
These conditions
include:
+ chronic pulmonary (including
asthma)
+ cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal,
hepatic, cognitive, neurologic/neuromuscular,
hematological or metabolic disorders (including
diabetes mellitus)
+ immunosuppression (including
immunosuppression caused by medications or by
human immunodeficiency virus)
+ receiving long-term asprin
therapy
*Health care and
emergency medical services personnel who have
direct contact with patients or infectious
material
Individuals not in the
groups above will not be vaccinated on
Saturday. CDC continues to stress that there
will be more than enough H1N1 vaccine available
for everyone who wants it, but it will take
time. More clinics will be planned as the
vaccine becomes available. Those clinics
will be posted on the website below.
Any healthy and eligible
individuals in the target groups above and between
the ages of 2-49 years old will be given the H1N1
nasal mist. The nasal mist is a safe and
effective product. The injectable vaccine
must be conserved for those who are not able to
take the nasal mist. Cooperation and
patience of all getting vaccinated is
appreciated.
There is an online
registration form on the Health Department webiste
at www.co.washington.wi.us/chn which can be printed, signed and
brought to clinic. This is optional, but
appreciated.
